EXPLORING THE CAPACITY OF MATERIALS TO ADDRESS THE CLIMATE EMERGENCY

How to design with changing climate ?

How can we construct with reclaimed materials and design for their future reuse?

Versailles, France

The BAP 2025 workshop, held in Versailles from May 19 to 23, offered students a hands-on immersion in sustainable and vernacular architecture. Organized as part of the Biennale of Architecture and Landscape “4° between you and me,” it focused on regenerating the relationship between city and nature in the face of climate change.

Over five days, participants experimented with building an experimental pavilion using reclaimed materials and vernacular techniques. The workshop drew inspiration from traditional solutions adapted to local resources and climatic conditions, while reinterpreting them to meet the challenges of Paris’s future climate.

Students explored passive thermal regulation systems, prioritized bio-based and reused materials, and collaborated with professionals to create architecture that is simple, collective, and resilient. The workshop fostered the transmission of artisanal knowledge, interdisciplinary cooperation, and active reflection on the living city of tomorrow.

« What I want to share with you today is that in any project, you can have a plan for what you intend to do, but it can change at any moment because of meetings, unexpected events, or even good news. And the project you take on is like a small seed that you are planting, with the potential to grow in ways you may not yet see. »
