MAYA'S ARCHITECTURE
A unique experience blending learning, heritage, and social impact.
Bécal, Mexico
The Maya Architecture Workshop offers participants the opportunity to discover traditional Maya building techniques while making a tangible difference in the community of Bécal, Mexico.
At the heart of the project is the restoration of vernacular homes belonging to vulnerable families. Over two weeks, participants — whether students, professionals, or passionate learners — work hands-on alongside local artisans and experts to bring these traditional houses back to life.
This collaborative experience is more than just a construction site: it’s a space for practical learning, cultural exchange, and community engagement. Participants develop new skills, gain insight into ancestral techniques, and contribute directly to preserving local heritage.
Beyond the work itself, the program includes cultural visits, artisan-led workshops, and lectures exploring the region’s heritage and social context.
The workshop’s mission is to create a true intercultural exchange — to learn from ancient knowledge, share experiences, and build meaningful connections between participants and the people of Bécal.
