About the event

(Folleto del taller con la información completa en español)

The workshop “Teaching of the Totora Archipelago” is a 10-day intensive participatory workshop (spread over two weeks) that brings together 15 architecture students, local inhabitants, and vernacular artisans to build floating housing units (utas) and promote a living heritage on Lake Titicaca, Peru.

By fostering dialogue between academic teaching and ancestral knowledge, this workshop aims to move from conceptual reflection to practical reality. The approach offers a collaborative and pedagogical immersion designed to directly support a local family designated by the communities, building low-carbon housing solutions that embody history, resilience, and harmony with the lake ecosystem.

Workshop Objectives

  • Collectively co-build innovative floating houses (utas) for a local family.

  • Train architecture students in vernacular and traditional construction techniques.
